What a great conclusion to the 1st Functional Stimulation Expert Days Congress in Lüneburg!
The 1st Functional Stimulation Expert Days Congress, held from 26 to 28 September 2024 at the historic Ritterakademie in Lüneburg, was a great success. More than 100 experts from the fields of science, medicine and orthopaedic technology came together to discuss the latest and most exciting developments and applications in the field of functional electrical stimulation.
Positive response and interdisciplinary exchange
Experts from across Europe had the unique opportunity to exchange ideas and learn about innovative approaches in functional electrical stimulation. Participants were particularly enthusiastic about the interactive design of the programme, which included a wide range of expert lectures, practical workshops and impressive patient feedback.
Keynote speakers and expert lectures
The internationally renowned keynote speakers were the highlight of the congress! Dr. Ines Bersch-Porada, Director of the International FES Centre® and physiotherapist, presented a detailed introduction and overview of the research results on electrical stimulation when applied to the lower extremities. Tom Heinze, a physiotherapist at the N.A.P. Academy, inspired the audience with his lecture on common mistakes and pitfalls in the anamnesis and diagnosis of neurological patients. Another highlight was the lecture by Dipl.-Med. Peter Sitte-Zöllner, a leading physician in the field of paediatric neurology/neuro-orthopaedics. He presented new technological developments that can help children with motor impairments to regain more mobility.
Workshops and case studies
The practice-oriented hands-on workshop ‘Deep Dive’ on electrode positioning received particular attention, in which participants were able to directly test the latest technologies and methods of functional electrical stimulation and determine potential electrode positions with a pen electrode. Through case studies and direct feedback from patients in attendance, the participants of the congress were able to experience the practical effect of functional electrical stimulation on everyday life in an impressive way.
Technology exhibition and networking
A comprehensive exhibition of all leading manufacturers and distributors showed their most modern devices and systems for functional electrostimulation. Participants had the opportunity to test the latest products and make valuable contacts for future collaborations.
Outlook and future of the Functional Stimulation Expert Days
The congress was a huge success! It impressively demonstrated that functional electrical stimulation is a pioneering field in medicine and rehabilitation that is making enormous strides. The response to the event was so positive that a sequel in two years is already certain. Lüneburg will once again become the meeting place for international experts.
